Child Dies in Heat-Related Accident

WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A two-year-old died on Saturday on the Crystal Ridge Reservation in southern Winston County.

Winston County Sheriff and emergency personnel responded to the home of Chris and Tammy Eaves in the Nanih Waiya area around mid-day.

Once it was determined that the incident occurred on the reservation, the investigation was turned over to the tribal police.

Initial reports indicate that the child was playing hide-n-seek with other children from the home.

The child entered a parked car but was then unable to get back out.

The mother found the child unresponsive and called emergency services who attempted to revive the child.

Winston County Coroner Scott Gregory pronounced the child dead around 2:00 p.m.

Officials say Coroner Harold Comby of the reservation is treating the death as an accident and has ruled the cause of death to be heat-related

The investigation is on-going.
