LOWNDES COUNTY, MISS. (WCBI) –  Some teachers in the Lowndes County School District are receiving grants totaling $35,000 dollars. The Lowndes County teachers were recognized for their awards during a board meeting on Friday.

Teachers apply for the grant yearly, based on their needs assessed in the classroom. The grants go toward funding new materials such as calculator covers, new books and other materials.

18 applications came into Ecolab for the grants, and 17 of those were funded.

Ecolab officials say it is a win-win situation for the students and the company.

“We at Ecolab believe that what we do matters and what we do matters within our communities. So we try to benefit as many people as we can with this money,” said Barbara Thomas, with Ecolab.
