Hit and Run Suspect Sought

STARKVILLE POLICE PRESS RELEASE

STARKVILLE, Miss. — On April 7, 2013 at approximately 2:49 am, a Starkville Police Department Officer was dispatched to Garrard Rd just east of Hwy 25 in reference to a call of an individual being hit by a vehicle. Upon arrival, the Officer observed a male subject lying on the ground beside a blue SUV that was parked facing east in the east bound lane of travel.

The driver of the blue SUV stated he had run out of gas as was attempting to pour gas into his tank when the incident occurred. He heard the vehicle come off Hwy 25 toward him and stated that the engine revved so he stopped pouring gas and grabbed a flashlight, waving it at the vehicle. The vehicle moved over into the left lane and attempted to go around him and his SUV but he stated his leg was still in the other lane and he was struck by the vehicle and his driver’s side door was struck as well, causing significant damage.

The victim’s SUV apparently did not have any lights of any type turned on and it was a very dark night according to a witness who arrived shortly after the accident. The victim was treated at the scene then transported to Oktibbeha County Hospital where he will be receiving surgery to repair his broken leg.

Anyone having any information regarding this hit and run incident is asked to call the Starkville Police Department at 662-323-4131 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
