Houston Opens Museum

HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) – A dream that began more than 30 years ago opened its doors in Chickasaw County today.

The Chickasaw County Heritage Museum opened in Houston’s Joe Brigance Park amid the large crowds attending the fly-wheel festival. The museum and genealogical library contains many significant artifacts that chronicle the people of Chickasaw County. Historical Society President Larry Davis says the county has a rich music tradition.

“We have one of the founding members of the Commodores was born in Okolona Mississippi, Myland Williams. He’s from this area. Bobby Joe Gentry spent time here in Chickasaw County. We have other people as well that have made a name for themselves in the music industry,” says Davis.

Davis says the museum is in phase two of a three phase plan for the historical society.
