WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Winston County residents are getting the chance to check out a plane they don’t normally see at their airport.

The Commemorative Air Force’s B-25 Bomber plane landed there Friday afternoon to kick off the celebration of a new terminal at the Louisville-Winston County Airport.

Local, state and national officials will unveil the new terminal, Saturday, which they’ve named after a local World War II veteran – Pruitt Lee.

Lee got to fly in the plane, Friday, bringing back memories of his time during the war.

Residents say this new terminal is a big deal for their airport, and the surrounding community.

“We’re no longer a little country airport, where guys come out in their Piper Cubs on Sunday afternoon, and fly the family around,” said Mike Forster, president of the Louisville-Winston Airport Board. “We now have about 80 percent of our traffic is business related, and therefore it’s economic development related.”

Several other old war planes will also be on display at Saturday’s event, which starts at 9 a.m.

You can also pay to go up in the B-25 plane yourself, following the dedication ceremony.
