MSU Baseball Falls In Game Two To Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WCBI Sports) – The Mississippi State baseball team’s struggles in SEC play continued Saturday.

The Bulldogs lost 9-7 at Kentucky in game two of the series, after dropping game one 10-2 Friday night. MSU has now lost four of its first five games to start conference play.

No. 20 Mississippi State (17-8, 1-4 SEC) scored four times in the ninth but was unable to complete the comeback in Lexington, KY. An RBI double by Matt Spruill and back-to-back home runs by Cody Walker and Jacob Robson brought MSU within two in the final frame. It was the first time the Bulldogs had hit back-to-back home runs since April 13, 2013 against Texas A&M.

Kentucky (15-7, 2-3 SEC) clinched the weekend series, never trailing Saturday. Game three is Sunday at noon CT.

The Wildcats scored twice in the first inning. MSU made it 3-2 before UK sprinted ahead with two runs in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh.

The Bulldogs’ Matthew Britton went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Cody Walker finished with two RBI.

MSU starter Austin Sexton lasted 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and four runs (all earned). Pitchers Myles Gentry, Daniel Brown, Zac Houston, Paul Young and Levi Mintz followed.
