STARKVILLE, Miss.  (WCBI) -Many came out today to support the Oktoc Country Store and it’s annual community get together.

There were all sorts of baked goods, country music, and stew to go around. The one day a year Oktoc Country Store fundraiser helps support projects around the community and is a joint effort between the Oktoc Garden Club and Oktoc Community Club.

“We raise funds every year to help support our community and keep up the building, we have very historic buildings here. This particular room that you’re in now was a 1 room school house and the room adjourning was a church and in 1934 the community members rolled the two buildings together,” said Oktoc Garden Club Member Anna Marie Rasberry.

The event brought out many locals to support and enjoy a taste of the famous Brunswick stew. They say, no one knows the recipe except for the cook himself.

“We’re cooking Brunswick stew, it started early yesterday morning and has cooked all night and was ready about 10:30 or 11 today. We see a lot of people, repeat people every year and I think that indicates that the stew is pretty good,” added Oktoc Garden Club Member Florence Box.

It’s a stew that many come from all over to enjoy, being cooked for hours in a 60 gallon pot.

“It’s very fun out here, we always come every year. Get some Brunswick stew and have a good time,” said supporter Chelsea Taylor.

Whether you were in the mood for music, arts and crafts or baked goods the Oktoc Country Store had something for everyone.

There was also hay rides for the kids a family favorite.
