BRUCE, Miss. (WCBI) – A city tailgate on a Saturday for the love of a town instead of football is unheard of in the south, except for in Bruce. A group called Bruce First put together the first ever Skuna River Art and Music Festival to showcase local vendors, artists, and the town.

Bruce’s shopping district experienced a major expansion on Saturday,  as the community came out to see what some area artists had to offer. Event Coordinator, Leah McCormik explains the importance of the festival.
“We just want the vendors to make money. We want local artists to make money. We’re just really trying to support the home team and it’s just good for Bruce. We want Bruce to grow as well,” said McCormik.
Local craftsmen were showing off their talents and were even creating masterpieces on the spot.
Not only does the festival provide great publicity for the vendors, it does for dogs too. Dog Lover League volunteer, Mendy Jones, tells what the event does for our furry friends.
“It helps us out with a lot of helping get homes to a lot of dogs and it helps us raise money through donations to help put toward the dogs, to benefit them,” said Jones.
The bi-annual event returns in April.
