STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Local kids get a hands-on experience in learning about agriculture and animals as part of the third annual FARMtastic event.

It offers youngsters the chance to learn just how important the farm and dairy animals are in daily life.

Guests enjoyed a variety of activity stations including lessons in horticulture, aquaculture and even a scavenger hunt.

FARMtastic has seen more than 2,000 kids from 10 counties over the past three days.

Organizers say this is just one way for kids to see how important agriculture is.

“Kids today are three and four generations removed from the farm, and don’t understand that agriculture impacts their daily life. So through events like this, we  are able to teach them that  pretty much that everything that they use on a daily basis, comes from a farm,” said Julie White, with the Mississippi State University Extension Services.

The event was sponsored by the MSU Extension Service.
