HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) – A local high school team is making a big name for themselves, as they travel down under to represent Mississippi.
The Houston High School Solar Car team will soon be heading to Australia.

The team won their 14th consecutive national championship title in Texas, and now, they will compete in the World Solar Challenge.

Houston is just one of the two high school teams competing in the international race.

The team continues their fund-raising efforts and look forward to the big trip.

” It means a lot because this is my first year ever going to Australia. We always go to Texas and we’re out there a lot and we won over there 24 years in a row. And right now, everybody on the team, this is going to be their first time going over there. It’s going to be a whole new experience,” said Matthew Hood, a team member.
The team is still shy of  about $15,00 dollars to raise for their trip and they are still accepting donations.

Their race begins on October 18th.
