MANTACHIE, Miss. (WCBI) – It began as a robbery investigation, but now police in Mantachie say a man and woman are in jail after concocting a scheme to embezzle money from a local store.

On Saturday, a woman told Mantachie police she was robbed while depositing money from the Dollar General Store at a local bank.

The woman,30 year old Jennifer Dyche, who was an employee of the store, is now charged with embezzlement and police say 30 year old Thomas Moss, Jr., was her accomplice and is also charged with embezzlement .

Both were arrested Sunday and Police Chief Mark Roberts says the initial story fell apart quickly, in part because of solid police work.

“It’s not a very common occurrence for the town of Mantachie, we have low crime rate so when this happened it was pretty substantial for our force, so we had a great group of guys that came in, and put in extra hours, worked hard and this is the outcome of them working so hard.”

Bond for each was set at 5 thousand dollars.
