WATER VALLEY, Miss. (WCBI) — A local automobile manufacturing plant is expanding, bringing new jobs to North Mississippi.

This is BorgWarner’s fourth expansion in Water Valley in the last five years.

It will create 158 new jobs.

“It’s going to get our job count back up,” said Water Valley Mayor Larry Hart. “We’re steadily back toward our high, so we’re excited about that. BorgWarner is a core industry in our community, and the surrounding area.”

Plant officials say they’ll hire a wide range of people – from production workers to engineers – over the next few years.

Some have already started working.

“We start by hiring a few people to get trained, and as they get trained, and as the volumes pick up, we add more people to fill the entire line to make the production that we need for our customers,” said Robin Kendrick, BorgWarner.

Mayor Hart says he’s looking forward to an economic boost.

“We have a large number of local residents, and by having BorgWarner here, we’ve drawn in some people into our community,” Hart said. “We’re hoping a lot more of those BorgWarner employees will move to Water Valley.”

Governor Phil Bryant says he’s confident there will be more expansions to come.

“This is a state-of-the-art advanced manufacturer for automobile manufacturing, particularly for the solenoids, for their new transmissions, but this is the type of manufacturing you’ll see more of in Mississippi in the future,” Bryant said.

Company officials say those interested in applying for any of these jobs should bring a resume by the Water Valley plant.
