VAIDEN, Miss. (AP) – Donna Brooks has been named police chief in Vaiden.

The 51-year-old Brooks has served as interim chief since February, when former Police Chief Allen Vance was suspended after being arrested in Grenada County.

The Greenwood Commonwealth reports (http://bit.ly/1adGsw5 ) that Brooks has been on the Vaiden police force for 12 years. She has also served as chief of the volunteer fire department since 2005.

Vance was charged with one count of arson and one count of conspiracy to commit arson on insured property after the state fire marshal’s office conducted an investigation into the burning of a vehicle in Grenada County on Feb. 10.

Vance was hired as police chief in September 2010 and also worked part-time with the Grenada Police Department. He is currently free on $30,000 bond.
