SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The Smithville Community gathered together for the 2nd Annual Memorial Day to honor the sixteen individuals who lost their lives on April 27, 2011 when a EF-5 Tornado destroyed most of the town.  Renee Seals says the memorial was a time to mourn for those who are no longer with us, but also to celebrate the obstacles the community has overcome.

“I lost both of my parents it’s a sad day. Yes, it’s nice though to be with family and friends to remember them and other families that lost people in the storm,” says Seals, a Smithville native.

Phillip Gunn, of the Mississippi House of Representatives, was the key note speaker at Saturday’s memorial service.
