VIDEO: Alabama Lottery Update

Ala. (WCBI)-

After a week of debate, lottery legislation has finally made it through Alabama’s Senate and has moved on to the House for a vote.

The bill, backed by Governor Bentley, puts the idea of creating a lottery to the first public vote since 19-99.

It passed through the Senate by a narrow margin Friday, after a number of amendments.

The House Tourism Committee could hear the bill on Tuesday.

The lottery bill is at the center of the special session Bentley called this week on Medicaid funding.

Lawmakers are also considering using oil spill settlement money that could provide a nearly 70-million dollar boost to Medicaid next year.

Alabama is one of six states in the country without a lottery.
