PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI) — The goal of bringing alcohol to the City of Pontotoc took a significant leap forward Tuesday evening.

The Pontotoc Board of Aldermen accepted two petitions, each seeking a referendum in an election legalizing the sale and possession of alcohol in the city.

Both petitions received more than enough signatures for consideration, with each garnering over the required 715. While one petition seeks legalizing light wines and beers, the other petition is looking to add liquor to the mix.

An election holding both referendums will be held September 16 at the Community House in Pontotoc.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

I believe it should be considered . Just to help the town grow with the taxes , that other towns are getting regardless . Keep all taxes here , you can’t stop people from driving to other towns , just to buy beer . There’s a lot of people that does drive drinking , just cause they have to go so far to get it . But I know Pontotoc , to many people that’s against it , drinks their own self .
