NORTHEAST, Miss. (WCBI)- Like many, Kayla Hodges reached several roadblocks while trying to enroll in the Health Insurance marketplace.

“It was kind of a nuisance for me too at first. I signed up online first and then I don’t know what happened, something went wrong. So I just called the 1-800 number that was on the application. I got through and it was pretty easy,” said Hodges.

It only took her 10 minutes. But it hasn’t been that easy for others.

“We have been giving out several applications,” said Mickens.

Kayla’s Mother, Katherin Mickens, is a social worker at Noxubee General. She’s heard from dozens of people with numerous enrollment problems.

“Not being able to talk to representatives right away, having maybe an hour of a wait on your phone, applications being sent back because in the beginning they had the wrong address so they had to redo applications and resubmit them,” said Mickens.

If you have similar issues, healthcare.gov now offers a 24-hour hotline for questions and concerns.

“Go ahead and use the phone because there’s a long waiting period for the turn around for the application. If you call, sometimes you’ll have to wait maybe an hour or an hour and a half, but then it’s worth the wait,” said Mickens.

Kayla says it was worth the wait, despite her problems, her coverage begins New Years’ Day.

“I would say don’t give up because you never know what kind of milestones you may meet up with down the road with your health care. If you can’t get through on the internet or if you’re meeting roadblocks just call,” said Hodges.

Mickens says if the website doesn’t workout for you, call a customer service representative. Tell them you’ve been trying to enroll and explain why you couldn’t finish before the deadline. The representative can help you finish the application.
