VIDEO: Annual Happy Irby Golf Tournament

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-An organization that makes sure needy children have merry Christmas hosted its biggest fundraiser on Friday.

The “Happy Irby Golf Tournament” teed off today at the Columbus Air Force Base. Twenty-six teams loaded up on their golf carts and played nine holes of golf.

All proceeds go towards the Happy Irby Christmas Fund.

This is the charity’s largest fundraiser, and it helps provide clothing and supplies to over 400 children in the community.

“The purpose of this fundraiser is specifically to raise funds for the Happy Irby Foundation, so that when Thanksgiving and Christmas time rolls around and the foundation reaches out to the schools to find out who those children are that’s in need,” said Douglas Gosney, Wing Commander at the Columbus Air Force Base. “We will have funds to go downtown and buy them and their socks and pants in their shoes and shirts to help get those kids who are in need, to make sure they have something under the tree that will get them for the rest of the school year.”

This year is the last year the golf tournament will be held at the CAFB.
