TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Members of an area Boys and Girls Club are learning some fancy moves for a fundraiser set for August.

About 15 youngsters at Tupelo’s Northside Boys and Girls Club are learning a routine they will perform for the Dance Like the Stars event in August.

The annual event is the major fundraiser for Boys and Girls clubs of north Mississippi, and the young people are getting lessons from a professional dancer who hopes the young people will come away with a deeper appreciation for dance and the arts.

“We have the event for dancing with the stars, where we have the celebrities — local celebrities — learn ballroom dancing, but this exposes the kids to the same thing, exposes them to something they haven’t done before,” dancer Tammy Wilson said. “We have kids that have done it for several years, a lot of brand new kids this year, so we just want to expose as many kids as we can to something different and new in ballroom dancing.”

Dance Like the Stars takes place at the BancorpSouth Arena Aug. 16.
