VIDEO: Bulldogs D Ready To Make Noise

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Three more days until the start of college football in Starkville.

The quarterback competition and life with Dak Prescott have been the biggest questions for the Bulldogs in 2016, but this year’s defense is as full of questions of their own.

The Bulldogs gain highly touted, Noxubee County defensive end Jeffrey Simmons, but lose two key, starting defensive back last week due to injury.

Senior defensive back Kivon Coman said, regardless of the changes and injuries, “I think the defense is going to surprise a lot of people. I think we’re better than we think we are and i just think we could go very far with this defense.”

“…I want to see how our guys adapt into the game week transition”, said head coach Dan Mullen.

“In theory, game week should be easier. The package is cut down. Instead of having an entire menu of what you can do, you have the blue plate special. There are only a couple of selections you’ll use in this game, to put it in Mississippi terms. The menu’s cut down for the week. With it being cut down, these guys are going to have to adapt. Even though the package is going to be smaller, how are they going apply it to a team that is going to be running different formations, motions and things that are different from what they’ve seen in training camp.”

The 2016 Mississippi State Bulldogs open their season versus South Alabama Saturday.
