STARKVILLE, Miss.(WCBI)—The T.K. Martin Center on Mississippi State’s campus was over run by campers Friday morning.

The 18th annual Camp Jabber Jaw kicked off earlier this week.

The camp is designed for kids with special needs and who use augmentative and alternative communication technologies.

Each year the camp has a theme. This year’s theme was time travel. Every day of the week long camp, campers got to do hands on, fun activities with each time period.

Parents of campers were welcome to attend each day of camp. The parents got the opportunity to interact with other families going through the same steps.

“Have the same concerns and the same journey that they have to take learning to use a communication system. There are very few camps in the country that surround Augmentative communication. I think it’s really important that they have that opportunity,”said T.K. Martin Director Janie Cirlot -New.
The funds for the camp were given by The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services, project start.
