VIDEO: City Eyes Safety Upgrades For Cotton District

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The Starkville Board of Aldermen approved a lease agreement for a police substation in the Cotton District in Tuesday night’s meeting.

The Camp family, who owns property in the Cotton District, offered to lease an apartment to the Starkville Police Department for no fee or utility fees.

The lease is located directly across the street from the Maxwell Street Intersection.

“Along with that, on this agenda that we have applied for, or will be applying for a Hotspot Grant, which will increase the number of police officers in the Cotton District area, along with meeting with Starkville Electric earlier in the week to improve lighting in the area,” says  Ward 4 Starkville Alderman, Jason Walker.

The lease begins on December 1st, but SPD can start moving immediately.
