Columbus, Miss. (WCBI) — If all goes well, the Columbus Fire Department will achieve Tuesday what few others in the nation have done. The National Fire Accreditation Board will vote on whether the Columbus department has met all the standards for national certification. The vote will come after years of work by local firefighters and a week-long review by an outside team last fall.

If approved, Columbus would be the only department in the state, and one of fewer than 2oo in the country to achieve national accreditation.
