COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- If you were traveling down main street this morning you may have run into a little traffic jam.

The annual Veterans Parade took to the streets Saturday.

Parade Participants from all over the golden triangle marched to celebrate and honor those who went before them.

It was a windy morning as people from all over the golden triangle lined main street of Columbus to see the annual veterans day parade.

The Columbus Air Force Base Along with Lowndes County came together to honor local veterans. Columbus Airmen Kevin Escobedo says he always looks forward to Veterans day to say thank you to those who fought and died for our freedom.

“Veterans day is just a good time to thank those who’s served and come before us. those who are currently serving. Just to thank them for the sacrifice because it’s not an easy thing and we know that. We know first hand,” said Escabedo.

Debbie Taylor has been volunteering with Golden Triangle outdoor for several years and says their organization understands the sacrifice the veterans have made and they welcome every opportunity to say thanks.

“Golden Triangle out doors is an organization that tries to provided recreational activities for people with disabilities or special needs and a lot of our veterans have special needs as a result of serving their country so we enjoy coming out and serving hot chocolate doughnuts and coffee to the participants in the veterans day parade each year,” said Taylor.

Taylor says though dugouts and coffee are just a small gesture, she hopes it sends a big message.

“We feel like this is just a small token that Atmos energy and golden triangle out doors can show to our veterans who have served for us and provided us the freedom that we have everyday,” said Taylor.

The parade concluded with a wreath laying ceremony, that featured a flyover from Columbus Air Force Aircrafts.
