Video: Community Reaction Clay County Double Homicide

WEST POINT, Miss.(WCBI)—No one wants to think of their road as the scene of a crime.

Or imagine shady dealings and deadly consequences just down the street.

The people who live in this rural area of Clay County feel the same way.

The neighbors who live on Dixie Hill Road are scared.

“I mean how would you feel this close to home we don’t know what’s going on. It kind of makes you suspicious because you don’t know who to trust it makes you want to stay in the house,” said Clay County Resident  San Ivy.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott responded to the call . Scott says one person was found inside a vehicle and the other victim was found partially out of the same vehicle. He says his deputies are working around the clock, looking for answers so the people who live here feel safe again.

“Any type of violent crime sends shock waves through the community. People get scared and don’t understand or don’t know what’s going on. So it’s our job to reassure them that Hey, it’s going to be ok,” said Scott.

Nichol Burns lives not to far from the crime scene. She says this changes how she feels about her own community.

“I was in shock because my mom had called and told me and I was just leaving her home before it happened so about 2 hours. I was totally in shock I was scared also but mostly shocked something like this happened in our neighborhood,”said Burns.

Scott says much of their investigation depends on what people see and what they share.

“We always want people to call even if they feel its insignificant that’s what out 911 call center is for. Call it in and let us check it out. If you have information on this crime or any other crime we want you to call the Sheriff’s office the continues cooperation with the other agencies and the public it’s a win win situation,”said Scott.

Burns says she lives in a tight knit community. And, for this crime to happen so close to home is unsettling.

“Everyone but you know oh still have to be aware of your surrounding s and everything that’s going on and you still have to be safe,” ,”said Burns.

Sheriff Scott emphasizes the importance of community as the case continues. If you have information and would like to remain anonymous contact Golden Crime Stoppers.
