VIDEO: Democratic Party Reacts To Elected Officials Switching Parties

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- Seven Itawamba County officials switched to the Republican Party while being in the middle of their term.

Long time Democratic activist Jamie Franks, who once represented parts of Itawamba County, said there’s nothing wrong with officials switching parties.

However, he believes the officials who made the switch on Thursday, went about doing it the wrong way.

“I think it’s a cowardly act to switch parties in the middle of your term after you’ve been elected,” said Franks. “I think it’s wrong. I think it’s wrong whether you switch either way, and something should be done at the national level and something should be done at the state and local level. I hope the people that are in the legislature will look at that and make some kind of provisions in the 2018 legislative session.”
