VIDEO: Family-Owned Store Celebrates 70 Years In Business

LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-The city of Louisville has seen a lot of businesses come and go over the past 70 years,  but one business that’s always remained is Frazier’s Shoe Store and Repair Shop.

“It’s a blessing to see it carry on,” said Danny Frazier, owner of the store.  “We repair shoes, boot, belts, coats, purses, saddles, bridles, harnesses. We make dog collars, we make knife sheets, gun holsters. I mean literally would we’re even making custom made purses now. So it’s very little that we don’t do

The third generation business first came about in the spring of 1947.

After spending several years of sharecropping, Fred Frazier Sr. learned the art of shoe repair and decide to open his own business.

“No education much he had, so that’s exactly what he did,” said Fred Frazier Jr., second generation store owner. “He picked up what he thought he could do, and he started in a shop in Philadelphia down there and trained to repair shoes.”

Frazier Sr. worked in the store for several years until he got sick.  He eventually passed the business down to his son, Fred Jr.  Fred Jr. also worked at the store for several years before passing the business down to his son and current owner Danny.

“I grew up watching granddad working here and then my dad,” the current owner recalled. “I actually had done other things, was doing construction before I came back in here, and I realize that I didn’t want it to go away, I wanted this to be a shoe store that we continue on in our family. And hopefully we’ll have a fourth generation.”

Frazier said shoe repair stores were popular back in the day.

Now his store stands as one of the only shoe repair stores in North Mississippi.

When asked how the store has managed to stay around for so many years, Frazier Sr. said it’s simple.

“Just work, treat people right,” he described. “I treat everybody that comes through the door as a customer. It didn’t make any difference who they were. We treated them right and we are reaping the benefits of that now. People know that I’ve done them right, And he’s doing them right and my daddy done them right.”

The store will be celebrating 70 years in business for the entire week.
