Video: Former Bulldogs, Celebrities Show Out For Mullen 36 Family Foundation Golf Classic

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — With spring football being a thing of the past, Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen was able to enjoy something much bigger than what goes on between the lines.

Former Mississippi State Bulldog athletes and celebrities joined Mullen and his wife, Megan, at Old Waverly Golf Club, Monday as part of the Mullen Family 36 Foundation Golf Classic.

“Coach Mullen was more than a coach to me…he’s more like a father figure or a friend”, Chicago Bears cornerback and former Bulldogs Johnthan Banks said.

“It’s great coming back out here to give back to a great cause, showing kids these days its not all about playing football or getting money. Just giving back, giving time, whatever you can to make a difference.”

Banks was joined by Mississippi State football legends and teammates like Dak Prescott, Chris Jones, Fletcher Cox, Gabe Jackson, and Vick Ballard.

“It’s [Coach Mullen’s] biggest thing, support the ones that supported you”, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Cox said.

“He support us, so we have to return the favor and support him. I think that’s whats really important about being here…I know it means a lot to him and Megan.”

For Mullen, having the support for his community and players he coached does mean a lot.

“Just to get back around those guys and the memories and what they’ve been able to do and you know what, I’m just thankful that they support us and come back, and are willing to come back and come help us out with this event”, Mullen said.

“I’ve been blessed with a lot of great things in life so our opportunity to give back, give children a chance”, Mullen said, “I think if you can give young people an opportunity in life, they’ll amaze you with what they can do with it. We want, as best as we can, to give opportunities to as many kids in Mississippi as possible.”

The Mullen Family 36 Foundation website says it has raised more than a half a million dollars for children’s charities across Mississippi.
