AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – The official start of summer is almost here and what better way to celebrate than with ice cream? One Monroe County restaurant is a favorite among locals when it comes to cool treats.

Everyday is an ice cream day at Dairy Kream in Amory.

“We sell a lot of it. I mean lots and lots. We sell dip cones, milkshakes in every flavor, strawberry, pineapple, caramel, butterscotch, all kinds of milkshakes. Even cookies and candy. M & M’s, Oreos, and peanut butter, and it’s actual peanut butter out of a jar,” said assistant manager Donna Price.

The family owned and operated restaurant has been a favorite spot in town since the 1970s. It is well known for the cheeseburgers, steak sandwiches and sweet tea. But its old fashioned charm, banana splits, dip cones and other soft serve ice cream treats keep customers coming back.

“We’ve seen a lot of children grow up and when they come home they’ve got to go to Dairy Kream,” said assistant manager Glenda Thompson.

“Even Texas Rangers player Mitch Moreland. When he comes home to Amory, he’s coming to Dairy Kream,” Price said.

And when you walk inside, the friendly faces make you feel like part of the family.

“Not a lot of people can work beside their sister and brother each and every day. I just love it, I mean I couldn’t do nothin’ else really. Sometimes I want to, but I really don’t,” said Price.

Dairy Kream is located at 600 Main Street North in Amory. The restaurant is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Call (662) 256-7562 for more information.
