STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Some Starkville residents gathered at George Evans Park for the dedication of the Needmore Community Historic Marker. There was live music along with food, and fellowship. Posters were on display to show visitors the historical district. The Needmore community was one of Starkville’s earliest African American neighborhoods and was first settled in the late 1800s due to the construction of the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroads. It was later annexed by the city of Starkville in 1972.
