VIDEO: Home Invasion Turned Stabbing Ends With Suspect In Handcuffs

MANTACHIE, Miss. (WCBI)- After an early morning stabbing in Itawamba County- police are still trying to figure out if a suspect will be charged.

It was around 10 this morning when the alleged home invasion and stabbing took place on Mount Pigsah Road in Mantachie. Now one man is in custody and one woman is in stable condition after suffering from multiple stab wounds.

“We got a call this morning about a possible stabbing and robbery- an officer responded and when he got there he found the victim. She had been stabbed 2-3 times in the extremities,” says Mantachie Police Chief Mark Roberts.

One of those extremities being her left cheek. The victim is 50 year old Melissa G. Baswell of Mantachie.

Investigators say Cori Stewart of Mantachie allegedly stabbed and robbed Baswell at her home.

“He left the scene and it looked like he threw the weapon in the ditch as he was leaving. From that point, got a description of the individual, luckily the Itawamba Sheriff’s Office was able to locate him and he is on custody now,” says Roberts.

In exclusive video, our cameras were there as deputies brought Stewart in for questioning. His only reply was ‘no ma’am’.

Baswell’s son, Zackery Baswell insisted his mother not do an interview.

He says Stewart previously dated his cousin and that’s how Stewart knew the victim.

As of right now, police Chief Roberts isn’t sure as to what exactly Stewart will be charged with, whether it’s home invasion or robbery.

But WCBI will keep you posted as those details become available.
