Video: Howland Excited About Young Bulldog Squad

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s a promising year for the Mississippi State men’s basketball squad. Head Coach Ben Howland bring the nation’s fourth-best recruiting class to Starkville for the upcoming season.

One of the big topics at the team’s media day Wednesday was being a part of team so talented, but also very young.

“I think that our team chemistry is much further ahead than it was a year ago,” Howland said.

“I think all these guys are together on the same page, and I think obviously the time we spent together this summer on the foreign tour helped that. I think we have a really good team unity and that’s exciting because we’re going to be in a foxhole together. There’s going to be adversity and how you deal with that adversity is the key to your success as a team and as an individual.

“I think we’ve bonded pretty good ever since we got here,” said freshman guard Tyson Carter.

“We’ve been real close and when we took the Italy trip, we all got closer and the chemistry got better. I think the chemistry is going to be really good between the freshman and all of us.”

“I think this squad, everybody together on and off the floor, at all times…these group of guys is a great group to be around,” elder statesmen senior guard I.J. Ready said.

“We have all these young guys, they have so many different personalities. I’m an old head so I just sit back and watch, and let them do all the joking and all the clowning. They’re great to be around. We have that type of team, when you have that chemistry off the court, it’s easier to get along on the court as well.”

The Bulldogs will open up the season on November 4th against Delta State in Starkville.
