TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Incoming students at Itawamba Community College got the chance to check out their schedules and take care of various needs before classes start Monday.

Students at the Tupelo campus took part in Quick Connection, and come and go session for high school or GED graduates, adult learners and transfer students.

The mini-orientation provided vital information on classes, financial aid and military education benefits.

Academic Advisor Emily Tucker says it was designed for busy students.

“We’re trying to help students who have other responsibilities,” Tucker said. “They may work during the week. They have family responsibilities. We want to make it convenient for them to come in and get things taken care of so they’re ready to start on Monday. Classes start this Monday.”

“I had a son in high school and just kind of put going off to college for awhile. Well he’s a senior this year at Saltillo High School. I want to go back and pursue a career in nursing so this is not just to motivate me but to motivate him as well,” said Denieccee Pettaway, a nursing student.

Pettaway it didn’t take her that long to get accepted into the program and she recommends it to anyone who has a desire to go back to school as an adult.

Tucker says there are plenty of counselors available to give potential students all the tools they need to get enrolled.
