Tupelo, MS (WCBI)-A Lee County judge has agreed to eliminate misdemeanor drug court and he can no longer preside in any case involving the Lee County Sheriff’s Department. Justice Court Judge Rickey Thompson has been investigated by the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance for unknown claims.Under an interim agreement, Judge Thompson has agreed to eliminate Misdemeanor Drug Court, which faced funding issues last year. Also, Judge Thompson can only hear cases involving speeding citations issued by the Mississippi Highway Patrol, as well as disputes between individuals.
Thompson started Misdemeanor Drug Court in 2009. Hundreds of people graduated from the program. Last summer, state budget shortfalls meant that all state support was eliminated.
