VIDEO: Local Law Enforcement Team Up With MHP For Safe Holiday Travel

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- The holidays always mean more cars on the road.

In preparation, local area law enforcement met up with MHP Friday for their quarterly luncheon.

Holiday travel was the main conversation with an emphasis on impaired driving.

DUI’s are at a High around the holidays and Columbus Assistant Police Chief Fred Shelton says their main concern is keeping everyone safe on the roadways.

“Fortunately, the Columbus Police Department was able to receive a grant from the Mississippi Office of Safety and we’re going to be implementing that program on December the 15th through January 1st and we’re going to be out there doing extra enforcement to reduce accident related fatalities as well as accidents caused by impaired drivers,” says Shelton.

Along with local law enforcement, area lawyers were also present to discuss DUI charges.
