VIDEO: Local Residents Give Their Opinion on Anti-Trump Protests

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- For the past five days, thousands of protesters have been gathering in cities across the country, all because of the recent election of Donald Trump.

While this has been going on, residents from Columbus and the surrounding area about their opinion on the protests.

Almost everything said had one recurring theme; it’s unnecessary.

“I don’t really understand what they’re protesting, because we have a democracy, where we vote a president in using an electoral college. They’re protesting against the system that our country was founded on,” said Columbus resident Trevor Corso.

Some of the people, who admitted to not be supporters of Trump, also admitted that now is the time for us to come together as a nation and acknowledge that Trump is our newly elected president.

“Was I happy Trump was elected? Not really. But the fact is that he won the election, and throwing temper tantrums, which is basically what these are is kind of dumb,” said Columbus resident Ryder Williams.

“I don’t think we need to protest because it’s not changing anything that’s happened. It’s in the past,” said MUW student Aliyah Brown.

Some even brought their belief in God into the argument, saying that we need to put our faith in a higher power than the government.

“When it’s all over and done, God is still in control no matter what. We’re looking at it the wrong way. if they put their trust back in God, like it’s supposed to be, everything will be a lot better,” said Okolona resident Curtis Gathings.

It might be safe to say that there will not be any protests seen in our area, regarding the election of Donald Trump, but nothing is certain as to how long these protests will last in metro areas across the nation.
