COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — It was one year ago Tuesday that Boston Marathon runners were shocked by an explosion neat the finish line.

Brad Atkins, a Columbus resident finished the race an hour before the first explosion went off.

Atkins said a marathon was the last place he would have expected something like this.

“Just finished and everything was fine. We walked down to take a shower and turn it and breaking news bombing. So just didn’t seem real and we turned on another channel and sure enough that’s what all everybody was talking about,” says Brad Atkins.

Atkins says he planned to head back to the finish line to cheer on other runners until he heard the breaking news.
