Video: Local Women Work Hard To Prepare For Miss Mississippi

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Back in January, Alivia Roberts was crowned Miss Tupelo and Jessica Swindle won the title “Miss All America City.”

Former Miss Mississippi contestant Diana Pittman, says it is vital to have proper form and that is achieved through a tailored workout program.

“In swimsuit, it’s easy for girls to trim down, diet and not eat certain foods and to lose weight, but it’s one thing when you go out on stage and you show you actually have muscle definition.,” Pittman said.

Each workout at SNAP Fitness focused on different muscle groups.

“Tonight, they’re going to be training their back, biceps and abdominals, some of the girls they have dresses with an open back and we want to make sure their beautiful back shows while they are on stage and also when they are standing with their hand on their hip, judges want to see those biceps,” she said.

Both Roberts and Swindle are veterans to the world of beauty pageants. For Roberts, this year she had a different gameplan when it came to her workouts.

“Last year I did a little bit more cardio, instead of more weights and this year I’m incorporating cardio and the free weights in it and also eating very lean, which I didn’t do in the past,” Roberts said.

When she is not training, in school, or doing other pageant prep , Swindle works as a weekend meteorologist at an Alabama television station.

She says the discipline it takes for pageants has long lasting benefits.

“I really like the poise and elegance I’ve been able to accumulate throughout the years, especially these speaking abilities, how much things like interview and on stage questions being able to tie back into my everyday life and even my career in meteorology,” Swindle said.

Joseph Guyton is a personal trainer who has helped the young ladies hit their goals.

“The judges can be brutal and those brutal judges are looking at every little and every little thing they look at they got to make sure that this looks like that, abs look good, make sure arms are toned make sure when they walk it’s exactly what judges need to see,” Guyton said.

All of the hard work is put to the ultimate test Saturday night.

Roberts did her preliminary swimsuit portion Wednesday, while Swindle’s is Thursday evening.
