Video: Lt. Governor Talks Budget

WEST POINT, Miss.(WCBI)—State budget talks were a source of contention for lawmakers during the legislative session. It was the main topic of discussion today at the West Point Rotary Club. LT. Governor Tate Reeves was the guest speaker for the group today.

He talked about the importance of having a fiscally responsible government and how to encourage job growth in the state.

Reeves also talked with us about the tax and budget review committee and its role.

Lt. Governor Tate Reeves says,” So now What were trying to do is look for ways to further improve our tax code we’ve been able to eliminate our inventory tax, we’ve been able to eliminate the corporate tax over a sustain amount of time so the revenue so that the revenue hit is not significant in any one budget year and we’ve don’t it in a responsible way. We want to accomplish the goal of more tax payers not more taxes for those who are paying their fair share.”

Reeves also says the tax panel is designed to encourage long term capital investment in the state.
