Video: Marine Vet Raising Money For Charity

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Patriotic music filled the air at the Mall at Barnes Crossing Sunday as a Marine veteran kicked off a week-long camp-out in the food court for charity.

Tupelo resident Scott Burns, also known as “The DJ,” is holding the 10th annual “Seven Days for the Troops.”

Burns will live inside the food court, on a stage, raising money for a group called “Purple Heart Homes.” The organization makes homes handicapped accessible for veterans who have been injured fighting the war on terror.

Burns served in the Marine Corps. He was injured and after twenty years dealing with the effects of that injury, had part of his left leg amputated.

“Purple Heart Homes” remodeled his home.

He will be at the mall through next Sunday.
