Video: Mississippi State Trooper Of The Year

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss.(WCBI)—The Columbus Exchange Club spent time honoring a Trooper who’s done outstanding while on the job.

During Thursday’s meeting Master Sergeant Larry Smith, received the title State Trooper of the year.

Exchange club members, community leaders and of course fellow troopers were in attendance.

Smith says usually this award goes to a younger trooper full of energy, just entering the force. Smith joked during his acceptance speech, between the tortoise and heir, some times the tortoise wins the race.

“I was very honored to get this after so many years. Kind of on the wind down portion of my career. For me to be honored by my peers after all this time it’s a great honor to me to be able to receive this award,”said Smith.

Master Sergeant Smith has been serving the Lowndes County Area since 1996.
