ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – After a huge motorcade starting at General Young Park in Monroe County then traveling through downtown Aberdeen, people came together to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Singing of the National Negro Hymn “Lift Every Voice” could be heard from the crowd at Hebron Missionary Baptist Church on Egypt Road.

True to a theme, “We Came, We Conquered, We Can,” focus was on the past while positioning for the future.

That Monroe County motorcade and memorial observance has been occuring since the first year after Doctor King’s death under the leadership of long time activist General Young.

Hebron’s Pastor Rev. Sam Crawford stressed the importance of having love and unity in the community.
