ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s official, Monroe County welcomes its new Chamber of Commerce Executive Director today. William “Skip” Scaggs takes over the reins of the business development organization after an intensive search. Howard Boozer, who has been serving as Interim Director of the Chamber, calls Scaggs a leader with a proven track record in economic development. Scaggs comes to Aberdeen from Jackson where he has been in a leadership position in the Mississippi Development Authority.
He says Monroe County’s best kept secret is its location.
“Monroe County has several aspects going for it. Two of the most important things that I looked at when considering this opportunity were first; it is located between Tupelo and Columbus, or Memphis and Birmingham. And, second, you cannot ignore the Tenn Tombigbee Waterway, and what that provides. It is an asset of affordable transportation for industry”
An official welcome was held for Scaggs at The Magnolias in Aberdeen. He officially starts work February first.
