COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)—The Mississippi University of Women honored a special alumna Saturday afternoon.

The Demonstration building on campus will be renamed Turner Hall after Mrs. Alma W. Turner.

The building will be recommissioned as an academic building to support the enrollment growth in the College of nursing and speech language pathology.

In attendance of the day’s event were former students of the former school. They also made acknowledgments about the Women who left a great impact on the school.

” Alma is a bridge builder. It would be enough to recognize her for the works she’s done in education as a teacher as a principal and as a school board member but really it’s because of the bridges that she’s build across all sorts of communities,” said Mississippi University for Women President Dr. Jim Borsig.

“Alma turner has been such an inspiration for everyone on the W campus and for anyone who went to the demonstration  school I believe. She’s just a wonderful person and we are thrilled to have it named after her,” said former student Margret Heyward.

Mississippi Legislation gave $250,000 toward the pre-planning phase of the building project.
