Video: MUW Passport to Wellness Lunch Walk

COLUMBUS,Miss.(WCBI)—Passport to Wellness hosts the annual W walks to lunch day Wednesday.

Mississippi University for women students faculty and staff laced up their walking shoes and headed down town.

Local restaurants offered discounts through the lunch hour.

Participants met at the gate of the university to register for door prizes, receive a “Walk To Lunch” sticker and a photo opp.

But Passport to Wellness Project Manager Santee says they hope the benefits of Wednesday’s walk are felt beyond just today.

“As you know Mississippi is number three when it come to obesity. So we want to keep our faculty, staff and students pumped up encouraged about you know just health and wellness and fitness in general. You don’t have to go to the gym you know taking a walk downtown to get lunch would be great,”said Ezell.

Wednesdays event is apart of Walktober. At the end of the month two participants with the most steps will be selected to receive a fitbit.
