COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Summer is almost here and if you are looking for work, a new survey says you just may be in luck. Snag-a-job is one of America’s largest networks for job-seekers and says A majority of employers are looking to hire.
According to recruitment and hiring solutions company Snag-a-Job, about 74% of employers are hiring more workers this summer. This is good news for job-seekers.
“I’m looking to apply at Paccar and Silver Star right here in town. I live right here. I’ve applied a couple of places and not found a job but I’m just looking to get some summer help,” says Colby Howard, an EMCC Student.
Colby Howard is just one of millions of young people who are looking for work this summer. Linda Gates is the District Director of Job Placement at EMCC. She says helping students prepare is crucial to them getting the job.
“Each job description, we tell them, you look at that job description, study it. Customize your resume each time to that specific job. Not one resume fits all,” says Gates.
Some employers have already started the summer hiring process. Columbus Parks and Recreation has hired umpires and score keepers for their summer activities but are still looking to hire people for their Day Camp.
“We like to see the younger folks that like to deal with the kids and enjoy being around the children,” says Roger Short, Exec Dir Columbus Parks & Recreation.
Greg Lewis is Programs Director at Columbus Parks & Recreation.
“We go through the WIN Job Center and the WIN Job Center screens these employees. Then of course, we’ll call and tell them that we need to interview. They’ll send us those people to interview,” says Lewis.
With summer just right around the corner, employers say now is the time to start submitting those job applications. The Labor Department expects two million more young people between the ages of 16 and 24, to be employed this summer.
