PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI) — A long-time company is expanding and another business is opening a hub to serve regional customers.

“From an economic development standpoint, today is a fantastic day for Pontotoc County,” Eaton Custom Seating President Greg Marx said.

The announcement of 55 jobs brought a mix of state and local officials to Pontotoc’s “Off the Square Market.” Eaton Custom Seating, a fixture in Pontotoc County for 50 years, is expanding. The company manufactures seating products primarily for the hospitality and health care industries. The $500,000 investment will add 20,000 square feet to its Coffee Street facility and create 20 jobs. The Mississippi Development Authority and city of Pontotoc are helping out financially.

“This is a great city, great state to be a part of, the employees, hospitality here is wonderful, our elected officials helped us out, Three Rivers, so we’re thankful for what they have done for us,” Marx said.

Meanwhile, North Carolina based furniture delivery specialist Brooks-DeHart Furniture Express is opening a terminal here. That project represents a $2.8 million dollar investment and will eventually create 35 new jobs. Ten people already are on the job. The city bought the old Wilton Building in the Pontotoc Industrial Park and is renovating it with the help of a $500,000 state grant. Location, local talent and the state’s pro-business climate led the company to Pontotoc.

“The Tupelo area, Pontotoc area, is the upholstery capital of the world. There’s so much opportunity here for growth and our customers in Florida and Georgia have asked us to open a facility here,” Anthony Brooks with Brooks-Dehart Furniture Xpress said.

As part of a team effort, Pontotoc County is helping with site work for the new company.

Monday’s announcement comes just five days after TrusSteel announced it would open a new facility in Pontotoc and employ 20 people.
