TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Almost one year ago a Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey circus elephant was sadly injured while at the Bancorp South Arena. As the city welcomes the circus back next month, they have something special for Carol the elephant.

While attending Monster Jam, residents of Tupelo and the surrounding area had the opportunity to sign a superhero cape for Carol the elephant.

Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton welcomed fans to Monster Jam Saturday afternoon and says the cape is a gesture of appreciation to Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey circus.

“First of all, we’re proud she’s coming back and Feld Entertainment and Ringling are continuing their commitment to providing entertainment here in Tupelo and just to showcase the community spirit,” Shelton said. “We are very sorry that incident happened and just a token of appreciation for Carol’s return.”

Feld Entertainment owns the circus and Monster Jam.

The circus will be in Tupelo April 3-6.
