SHUQUALAK, Miss. (WCBI) – There will be no federal money to clean-up of debris in Noxubee County after last month’s tornado.

The damage did not total more than 4 million dollars, which is the cutoff for FEMA assistance.

Some people living in Shuqualak are not getting the help they need.

People living on a stretch of roadway in Noxubee County have gotten help, but that assistance has only gone so far.

Some of these hard working taxpayers are not eligible for SBA loans and do not have home insurance.

Aprils tornado was nothing short of devastating.

“Just trying to maintain sanity. I’m trying to constantly work because I got to work. And then work at home trying to get everything back in order, living conditions,” said Ervin Hill, Noxubee County.

Ervin Hill has been staying at the Oak Tree Inn, and other family members remain displaced as well.

“We are so packed up in my mom’s house. And of course you know it was myself and my brother as well as my two sister’s homes. So it was five homes that were destroyed,” said Ervin Hill.

“I’m currently in Columbus. Not by choice most definitely. But thats where I’m residing at right now. But I’m trying to get back down here as soon as I can,” said Ethel Hill, Noxubee County.

“You know, its just hard to try to just bounce right back you know. It just take time for everything to happen you know,” said Tyrone Hill, Noxubee County.

Danarius Hunt and his brothers have been busying themselves with the responsibility of taking care of 15 quarter horses and some cows.

They also have to come up with funds to tear down and rebuild their barn.

“Yeah, as you know you can see the tornado been, come through in about a month ago and we, and its still tough on us. We’re trying to get it on down before the winter gets here,” said Danarius Hunt, Noxubee County.

We also must factor in the injuries and doctor’s visits these tornado victims had to deal with.

Ethel Hill had extensive injuries to her hand and requires more surgery.
