Video: Special Session Ends With Legislature Okaying dip into Rainy Day Fund

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) -It took longer than expected, but the Special Session to fill a multi-million dollar hole in the State budget ends with the legislature giving Governor Bryant access to the state’s Rainy Day Fund.

Bryant called the session for Tuesday to seek an additional 50 to 70 million dollars from state reserves to make up a deficit in the FY 2016 budget.

The Senate passed a bill giving the governor permission to take as much money as needed, but the bill was held up in the House while Democrats debated putting limits on how much money could be withdrawn.

The House passed the bill Wednesday morning. State law requires the budget to be balanced. The budget year ends midnight Thursday.
